In photography there's certain moments that you want to make sure things work out well. Family portrait photography is one of those times. A parent portrait or family portrait is an important photograph to capture because you're capturing a special moment, a time of significance.

It might not seem like that at the time, but believe me, when you look back on this, you'll be glad someone captured it on camera. Or at least tried to!

It's important to be aware of just how valuable photography is, and especially, family portrait photography. It holds history in its hands.

Unfortunately, time doesn't come back.

What once was, once was. You can't get time back, nor can you go back. The only thing we have is the now.

And that just quietly slipped away too, did you see it go? :-)

And family portrait photography..? That's when you hold time still. You capture a moment in the furious movement of life. You celebrate your piece of existence... stake your claim to this reality we call life.

It's really about you, your family, your relationships and a lot to do with sharing and love.

So the bottom-line? Continue to take an abundance of images to capture the feeling of that particular moment as best as you can.

If you get it wrong it doesn't matter. What matters is that it is recorded on camera.

Your family, cousins and even friends, want to see, learn, and perhaps grow an appreciation of who their long lost cousins are, who their grandparents are, and who actually they might be related to in the family. A scary thought?

How To Best Take Family Portrait Photography?

Experiment! If it's your family, they'll often be accepting enough to allow for a more creative and flexible approach to a family portrait. Find your way around the camera and practice your angles.

There's really nothing to it. Get in there and take shots of what makes you feel good. You'll find that your own cute little perspective will wow everyone!

Look at how the great image makers do their work. There's no real right or wrong way. It's a matter of honing those skills and absorbing other photographer's perspectives, being aware of soft light times of the day and maybe even getting a mentor to help you refine your style.



Editors Footnote: I keep pushing all these creative ideas about how great and flowery family portrait photography is. But I know it has its share of turmoil and upheavals and dark and light, all mixed in. That's just the way life is. Take it with a grain of salt, or something like that. Just focus on expressing your dreams and desires...
